NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents has approved the naming rights for the men's basketball team player's lounge in the Loddie Naymola Basketball Performance Center, which is currently under construction. The lounge will be known as the Dr. Bill and Barbara Gandy Men's Basketball Player Lounge upon completion of the facility.
"Today is another great day to be a 'Jack!", said SFA Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey. "I cannot thank Bill and Barbara Gandy enough for their continued generosity and support, not just of our basketball programs, but our entire athletics department. Bill and Barbara are a shining example of the wonderful individuals that we have supporting our athletics department. This naming recognition allows us to say a small "Thank You" to their generosity and support. They are great friends and I look forward to being able to share this wonderful moment with them and the entire Gandy family."
The Gandys' ties to SFA run deep, as Bill is a 1968 graduate of the university and along with his wife, Barbara, has served the university in a number of capacities since then. Bill has served on the SFASU Foundation board of trustees since 2001 while also serving as vice president, chair and membership chairman on the finance committee, while Barbara has served on the SFA Friends of Music committee in a variety of roles for ten years, raising money for a variety of scholarships and programs. The pair were inducted into the Fredonia society in 2010 and have been recognized for their generous cumulative giving, including endowing three scholarships for students at SFA and providing initial housing for coaches and the director of athletics at SFA.
"As I have said many times, now, more than ever, we need our donors and supporters to step up and help us move our athletics department forward to our vision of becoming the leading mid-major athletics department in the nation", added Ivey. "We CANNOT do it without each and every one of them!"
