Inside SFA Athletics | March 9-13

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The second week of March sees the return of both basketball programs to Katy and the Southland Conference Tournament, and Ladyjack softball fans can get their first look at the team at home this season over the weekend as well. Beach volleyball continues action in California with several road matches, while baseball travels to Houston for a road series with HBU.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
Regular season champions and top-seeded SFA will head to Katy this week for the 2020 Southland Conference Basketball Tournament at the Merrell Center.The Lumberjacks will wait to see who they play in the semifinals on Friday at 5:00 p.m., but it will be any one of Texas A&M-CC, Northwestern State or Sam Houston State.

The Lumberjacks will head to Katy with some deserved accolades in their pocket. Kevon Harris was unanimously voted the Southland Conference Player of the Year, Gavin Kensmil was tabbed as the Newcomer of the Year and Kyle Keller was named the league's Coach of the Year as well.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
The Ladyjacks may have come up just short in the pursuit of the league's regular season title, but secured a double bye into the semifinals with a runners-up finish. The Ladyjacks will also wait to see who they play in Saturday's semifinal at 3:30 p.m, facing the winner of No. 7 UIW/No. 6 Nicholls and No. 3 Abilene Christian.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE PAGE

WOMEN'S TENNIS
The Ladyjacks opened conference play with a narrow loss to UNO on Saturday, before evening up their league record at 1-1 with a bounce-back 6-1 win over Nicholls. SFA will be back home in Nacogdoches on Saturday for a home match against the University of the Incarnate Word at 1:00 p.m.

WOMEN'S TENNIS SCHEDULE PAGE

SOFTBALL
SFA softball is riding an absolutely dominant streak into the weekend's home series against UIW, having won 13 straight games after Tuesday's game against Texas Southern. The Ladyjacks will play host to UIW at SFA Softball Field on Friday and Saturday in their long awaited home opener. SFA will play the Cardinals in a doubleheader at 1:00 and 3:00 p.m on Friday, then circle back for the final game of the series at noon.

Ashley Kriesel and Marissa Arriaga were named Southland Conference Honorable Mention as Pitcher and Hitter of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in SFA's sweep over Lamar last weekend.

BASEBALL
SFA baseball will be back in action this weekend in Houston following their swepe of Lamar at home last weekend. The 'Jacks are 6-10 overall and 3-0 in Southland Conference play, sitting atop the league standings heading into the week.
