NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Ahead of the 2019-20 academic year, a number of staffing position changes - as well as a few additions - have been announced by SFA director of athletics Ryan Ivey.
Brandi Bryant joins the SFA athletics administration as the Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development and Strategic Initiatives. Before heading to Nacogdoches, Bryant served multiple roles through her four-year stint (2015-19) at Austin Peay State University. Most recently, the Clarksville, Tenn., native was the Governors' Assistant Director of Athletics for Strategic Initiatives and Capital Projects. She also held positions as Austin Peay's operations manager, director of athletics business operations and assistant athletics director for business affairs.
Loree McCary has been elevated to the position of Associate Athletics Director for Administration and will retain her role as SFA's Senior Woman's Administrator (SWA). An SFA athletics employee for nearly three decades, McCary was a longtime athletic trainer for the 'Jacks before moving into administration. In her new role, McCary will continue to oversee housing assignments and will work closely with the human resources branch of SFA.
Also being elevated to a new role is Rob Meyers who takes on the title of Associate Athletics Director for Business and Facilities. Along with continuing his duties in overseeing all of the business operations of SFA athletics, Meyers now oversees the facilities management of the department. A longtime SFA athletics employee, Meyers is set to continue his role as the voice of the Lumberjacks for SFA's football and men's basketball teams.
Taking over SFA's compliance area is Kara Carpenter who will serve as SFA's Assistant Athletics Director for Compliance. Carpenter moved into the compliance role following a short stint as a student-athlete academic services advisor upon coming to SFA in the fall of 2018.
Mackenzie Wenger moves to the role of Director of Athletic Academic Services. Formerly an Athletic Academic Services Advisor at SFA, Wenger will now oversee a staff of five other individuals in SFA's student-athlete academic services department.
Joining SFA as Athletic Academic Services Advisors are Walter De La Cruz, Casie Logan and Jordan Rains. De La Cruz moves over to athletics after working at SFA's Student Success Center as a triage advisor. In that role, he provided support and assistance to any self-identifying foster and adopted students by way of connecting individuals to community resources, as well as providing academic assistance, moral support and career advice.
Rains comes to SFA from Northwestern State where she was a two-year letter winner on the Lady Demons' softball team. A dual graduate of Northwestern State, Rains received both her bachelor's (psychology) and master's (sports administration) from the Natchitoches, La., institution. She served as an intern in SFA's Athletic Academic Services Department before being elevated to a full-time role.
A graduate of Kentucky, Logan comes to SFA following a one-year stint as an Athletic Academic Intern at Florida State. Logan earned a master's degree from South Carolina and was a graduate assistant in athletic academics while in Columbia, S.C.
