Rising junior is second Californian to join SFA's beach squad
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A second student-athlete from the state of California has joined the ranks of SFA's beach volleyball squad for its inaugural 2020 season as head coach Alex Luna announced Saturday the addition of Paige Schieferstein to the Ladyjacks' roster.
Paige Schieferstein | 6-0 | Jr. | Santa Cruz, Calif./Capital HS/Cabrillo College
Through a two-year stint at Cabrillo College, Schieferstein competed for both the Seahawks' indoor and outdoor volleyball programs for one season each. As a freshman on the indoor scene, she helped her squad post an impressive 30-2 record which yielded a California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Women's State Championship.
During her sophomore year of 2017-18, Schieferstein made the switch to beach volleyball and enjoyed a similar level of success. At the end of the 2018 season Cabrillo had produced an 11-1 record, a Coast Conference championship and a CCCAA Women's State Championship.
As a prep at Capital High School in Olympia, Wash., Schieferstein helped the Cougars develop into one of the state's premier indoor programs. Capital HS laid claim to four league titles throughout Schieferstein's tenure and during her last two seasons the Cougars posted runner-up finishes at the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state championships. Schieferstein's senior year saw her pick up a Second Team All-League citation.
Luna on Schieferstein | "I'm extremely excited to have Paige on board. She has had great success in an extremely competitive California Community College Beach Volleyball Association. This high-level experience will be a huge asset to our team and will help to accelerate everyone's learning curve. She brings confidence, physicality, and seniority to our group and I'm eager to see her contributions to our program."
