NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In an announcement made Monday by SFA Director of Athletics Ryan Ivey, a major milestone has been reached by SFA athletics as for the first time in school history 100 percent of the department's full-time employees have made a commitment to better the experience of SFA's student-athletes by making financial gifts during the academic year.
"I am thankful and grateful to our entire athletics department for setting the standard in regards to support to all of our student-athletes," Ivey commented. "By having 100% participation in our annual giving, it allows us to show our great external supporters that we are not asking them to do something we are not willing to do ourselves. Private giving is a critical and growing need for intercollegiate athletics today."
Upon arriving in Nacogdoches in July of 2018, one of Ivey's goals was to achieve a 100-percent giving rate by all full-time SFA athletics employees to begin enhancing the student-athlete experience for SFA while displaying a commitment from within that resonates with current and future external supporters of SFA athletics.
In order to build on its private giving goals, SFA athletics announced in early April that it has rebranded and reorganized the longstanding Varsity Club into a new fundraising arm for the department called the Purple Lights Fund. The PLF provides multiple avenues for donors to give to what they are most passionate about. It contains a seven-tier unrestricted giving program, sport-specific giving options and a parent giving program for families of current student-athletes. All giving to the PLF directly supports the daily pursuit of victory of SFA and its 371 student-athletes.
"I want to encourage and challenge all SFA friends, family and supporters to join the Purple Lights Fund. The PLF is the fundraising arm for our athletics department and will allow us to grow and move forward to achieving our ultimate vision of becoming the leading mid-major athletics department in the nation," continued Ivey. "There is strength in numbers when it comes to giving and I know we can and will accomplish great things together!"
