
SFA Track and Field Shines on Second Day of Carl Kight Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The SFA track and field team took full advantage of a chance to compete at home and on its own track on Friday, recording a bevy of top finishes and event wins on the second day of the Carl Kight Invitational inside Homer Bryce Stadium. The day began with the culmination of the heptathlon and decathlon, then transitioned into field events and rounded out with the distance carnival that stretched into the night.
MEET EVENT WINNERS
• Caitlin Lennon and Jillian Turner tied on points (5026) to win the women's heptathlon to open the day's competition.
• Conner Wilbur won the men's decathlon with a personal best effort of 6498 points.
• Madison Pecot and Nastassja Campbell tied for the top spot in the pole vault, clearing 4.14m (13-5).
• Branson Ellis finished first in the men's pole vault with a mark of 5.48m (17-11.75).
• Erick Rotich took the top spot in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:44.65.
• Kelsey Ramirez finished right in line with her PR in the women's 1500m race, finishing with a time of 4:29.40 to lead the pack.
• Brittany Innis (story photo) finished first in the women's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:39.34.
• Cord Neal won the javelin throw with a distance of 62.18m (201-04).
• Riley Cross won the women's shot put with a throw of 13.56m (44-4).
• Kevin Steward won the men's shot put with a distance of 17.64m (57-8).
• Aolani Harris took the women's long jump with a distance of 5.91m (19-3).
TOP THREE FINISHES
• Chris Shirk took second in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:50.35.
• Taryn Surratt finished second in the steeplechase as well with a time of 10:55.71
• Pedro Flores finished third in the men's 1500m race, coming in at 4:02.37.
• Bradley Beaty took third in the men's decathlon with 6125 points.
• Isaiah Pittman finished third in the men's long jump with a distance of 7.25m (23-7).
• Raylynn Brewer finished second in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.56m (18-2).
• Christina Hernandez finished third in the women's 5000m run at 19:04.90.
• Antonio Ruiz took second in the men's pole vault at 5.28m (17-3.75), while Tyler Stafford cleared 4.98m (16-4) to finish in third place.

• Innis' time in the steeplechase bettered the previous Southland leading mark by 12 seconds.
