NACOGDOCHES, Texas – In anticipation of the 2019-20 SFA men's and women's basketball seasons – which will begin in three weeks – the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks will congregate at First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Oct. 22, for the 2019 Jack McCullough Memorial Meet the 'Jacks event hosted by the Nacogdoches Rotary Club.
Tickets for the event are $15 and can be purchased at the door on the day of the event. All those in attendance will be treated to a dinner of fried fish and will get the opportunity to mix and mingle with the players and coaches of the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks once the event begins at 6:00 p.m.
Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Kyle Keller and his staff, the new-look 'Jacks boast 12 new faces among the 16-man team as they seek to return to the NCAA Tournament field for the sixth time in the last 11 seasons. One of the 'Jacks' four returners, senior Kevon Harris was recently named a Preseason All-Southland Conference First Team pick and is positioned to end his career as one of the best players in the history of the program.
Entering the 2019-20 campaign, Harris sits in 15th place in program history in scoring (1,292 career points) and among the top-ten players in SFA's NCAA-era history in four other statistical categories including field goals made (eighth, 420), free throw attempts (eighth, 456), three-pointers made (sixth, 129), free throws made (fourth, 323).
In search of their fourth-consecutive seasons of 25 wins, the Ladyjacks were tabbed second in the 2019-20 Southland Conference Preseason Poll and return the likes of reigning Southland Conference All-Defensive Team selection Stephanie Visscher as well as seniors Kennedy Harris and Riley Harvey.
SFA claimed a runner-up finish in the Southland Conference last season, finishing one game back of regular season champion Lamar. The Ladyjacks' 25 wins were the most among all Southland Conference programs in 2018-19 and they head into 2019-20 in possession of the nation's fourth-longest active home court winning streak. SFA has won its last 17 games inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Lumberjacks' season will begin inside William R. Johnson Coliseum on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 6:30 p.m. when SFA tangles with in-state foe LeTourneau at 6:30 p.m. A road trip to Tulsa, Okla., signals the start of the Ladyjacks' 2019-20 campaign which begins at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Tulsa.
