
Beraki Takes Fourth as Lumberjacks Finish 12th; Ladyjacks Finish 19th at Arturo Barrios Invitational

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Freshman runner Awet Beraki continued his torrid freshman campaign with a fourth-place finish at the competitive Arturo Barrios Invitational on Friday, helping the Lumberjacks seize 12thplace with a total of 345 points. The Ladyjacks would finish 19thon the day with a total of 508 points.
Competing in a field full of high-level competition, the men's team received a huge boost from the finish of Beraki, who finished fourth with a time of 24:23.5, a personal best by 16 full seconds. Following Beraki and finishing second for the men was Titus Kiplagat, who placed 38thwith a time of 25:22.8. Next came Erick Rotich in 76thwith a time of 25:56.2, followed closely by Grant Tiff in 88thwith a time of 26:07.9. Pedro Flores rounded out the scoring on the men's side with a time of 27:21.6 and a finish of 161st.
On the women's side, the Ladyjacks raced to a 19thplace finish without one of their starting five. Taryn Surratt would lead her squad with a finish in 41stand a time of 21:50.8, followed by Clare Crone in second with a time of 22:45.0 and a finish of 93rd. Elizabeth Guerra came in at 119thwith a time of 23:03.7, and Carolyn Evans came in 152ndwith a mark of 23:49.7. Rounding out the scoring was freshman Alexis Antkowiak with a time of 24:29.4 and a place of 180th. Samantha Roberts also ran in the race, finishing with a time of 27:09.6.
The men's team finished ahead of all other Southland schools in the race, while the women's team finished behind Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and McNeese and beat rival Sam Houston State in the event. The 'Jacks will see those same schools on the 26thof October, when the Southland Conference Cross Country Championships will take place in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
