ARLINGTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 loss to Southland Conference rival Abilene Christian in its regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Ladyjacks’ only win of the afternoon came in the number-three doubles flight. The freshman/sophomore duo of Sian Payne and Kaja Ljubic posted a 7-5 win over the ACU tandem of Autumn Crossnoe and Jordan Henry.
That win countered a 6-3 ACU win in the number-one doubles flight, but the Wildcats sealed up the doubles point when Liza Aginskaya and Darinka Tiboldi dropped a 7-5 decision to Sarah Adams and Whitney Walker in the second doubles match.
Freshman Gabi Guilarte held a 1-0 lead over Lucile Pothier in the number-two singles match by notching a 7-6 (7-2) victory in the opening set. Guilarte, however, saw Pothier regroup and take the match by winning 6-3 and 10-2 in the net pair of sets.
Entering the 2017 Southland Conference Tournament as the number-eight seed, the Ladyjacks open postseason play by meeting top-seeded and two-time defending Southland Conference regular season champion Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the opening round of the tournament. First serve at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center is slated for 2:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.
