Women's 4x400 Finishes Ninth Overall in 2017 Texas Relays

Final Day Results
AUSTIN, Texas – The story of SFA’s journey of the 2017 Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays was the women’s 4x400-meter relay squad, who qualified for the final race for back-to-back years at the Relays. Two of the Lumberjacks, Tiffany Williams and Aliyah Davis were part of the 2016 relay team that finished eighth in the competition. This year the team of Imani Nave, Tiffany Williams, Chelsi Gill, and Aliyah Davis squad qualified once again for a chance at the Texas Relays title in the final race of the night. The Lumberjacks, the only Southland conference school in the race, finished with a time of 3:48.32, placing them ninth overall.
The first collegiate finals of the day were the men’s 4x200-meter relay. The squad of Jared Love, Jordan Washington, William Gibson, and Tedrick Hawkins faced their first 4x200m race of the 2017 outdoor season and came out with in seventh out of 13 teams. The Lumberjacks took third in their heat, crossing the line with a time of 1:25.30.
Senior Rana Ryan competed in the invitational 1500-meter run later that afternoon in the company of three professional runners. Ryan left it all out on the track posting a time of 4:38.69 that placed her ninth in the competition.
Earlier on Friday evening, SFA had a small squad compete in the 2017 Bob Larsen Distance Carnival hosted by UCLA. Seniors Shelby Pesek and Mary Luster took the trip over to the west coast to compete among an elite group of distance runners. Pesek ran in the 3,000-meter steeplechase earlier that evening and finished third in the competition with a time of 10:33.43. Luster competed in the last event of the carnival, the 10,000-meter race. Luster had a tremendous run, besting her personal record in the event by two minutes and fifty seconds. She crossed the line with a time of 35:30.08, which placed her sixth in the standings.
SFA will be hosting their own meet next week. The Skecher’s Carl Kight Invitational will span over three-days of competition from April 6 through April 8.
