Ladyjacks to Compete in WBI against UTRGV

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Women’s basketball team accepted a bid to the eighth annual Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament on Monday night. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley will host the Ladyjacks in the first round of the tournament on Thursday, March 16, in Edinburg, Texas. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
This will be the Ladyjacks 30th post season appearance in the history of the program. The last was in the 2014-15 season in the WNIT. SFA has participated in the WBI two different times in the past, the 2013-14 season and the 2011-12 season. So far, the Ladyjacks are 3-2 in the post season tournament game, after making all the way to the championship round in 2014 before losing out to UIC, 73-64.
The WBI is a four-round, single elimination tournament pitting 16 teams against one another over eight days of play. The quarter finals will be held on either March 18 or 19. The semifinals are schedule for March 22 or 23. The WBI Championship Game will be contested on either March 25 or 26. All games will take place at campus sites.
UTRGV is making its third straight post season tournament appearance in program history, and it will the first post season game hosted by UTRGV in program history. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley finished their season with an 18-13 overall record and 8-6 in the WAC conference. They bowed out early in the Western Athletic Conference Tournament after losing to UMKC, 77-69.
WBI tickets will be available to the general public for purchase on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. They will be available online via UTRGVTickets.com.
