
Terentyeva Captures Spot on Southland Conference All-Academic First Team

2016 Southland Conference Women’s Tennis All-Academic Team Release
FRISCO, Texas – Once again, Stephen F. Austin senior Valeria Terentyeva landed a spot on the Southland Conference All-Academic Women’s Tennis team. For the second-straight year, Terentyeva secured First Team laurels and brings her total of Southland Conference All-Academic Team appearances to three after securing a place on the Second Team in 2014.
The honor comes after the St. Petersburg, Russia, product captured Capital One Academic All-District acclaim for the second-straight year by carrying a perfect 4.0 GPA in physics. Last Saturday, Terentyeva was one of SFA’s 55 student-athletes who participated in the university’s spring commencement ceremonies.
Terentyeva closed the books on her four-year career as a Ladyjack earlier in the spring by helping guide the squad to the second seed in the Southland Conference Tournament for the second season in a row. Competing primarily in the number three singles flight, Terentyeva compiled a record of 7-13 in her final collegiate campaign as well as a 6-11 mark in doubles action.
For her career, Terentyeva collected a singles mark of 49-39 which included a 23-19 showing against Southland Conference foes. Her career doubles record stands at 36-32 and included in that is her 15-6 figure as a junior which led to her being named to the All-Southland Conference Second Team in doubles.
Terentyeva, who was a key component in guiding the Ladyjacks to a share of the 2015 Southland Conference regular season title, found herself on the receiving end of a number of other prestigious SFA awards as well. She was named the Kathy McGough Award winner for being the graduating female student-athlete who held the highest cumulative GPA. Additionally, she captured the William H. Bailey Outstanding Physics graduate award for being the highest-ranking graduating physics major in the 2015-16 academic year.
Terentyeva is one of five All-Academic team members who possess a GPA of 4.0, joining Southeastern Louisiana’s Renee Villarreal, Northwestern State’s Natalya Krutova, Sam Houston State’s Maddie Mortimore and McNeese’s Julia Kral.
The all-academic teams are voted on by the head coaches, sports information directors and academic/compliance administrators from each Southland Conference university. Student-athletes must possess a 3.0 cumulative GPA, have completed one full academic year the nominating institution and participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition to qualify for the all-academic squad.
