SFA (4-2) vs. UTA (5-0)
Dec. 3, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. CT
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Ladyjacks are coming off a terrific whole team effort on Wednesday, as every player contributed to the points column or rebounds. Several career records were broke that night, highlighted by a tremendous rebound effort from senior Danielle Rogers, who had nine on the night. Senior Taylor Ross had 14 points and a career high 10 assists against the LSUS Pilots. Freshman Riley Harvey had another breakout game this season with a season high 11 points and eight rebounds. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker led the Ladyjacks with a total of 16 points, seven rebounds, and two assists on the night. Five different Ladyjacks contributed double figure points to the 93-56 win over LSUS.
SFA now turns to face the former Southland conference opponent UTA on Saturday afternoon. This will be the 64th meeting between the two teams. The Ladyjacks have split the last four games with the Mavericks, but still lead the series 45-19. Last year, the two squared off at William R Johnson Coliseum, and the Mavericks pulled off a 67-63 win. The Ladyjacks will be out for revenger as last year’s, fourth quarter 9-2 pull away effort by the Mavericks snapped the Ladyjacks 17 game home winning streak.
The Mavericks have had a success start to their 2016-17 campaign with a 5-0 record coming into Saturday’s game. UTA played Seton Hall last Sunday and were led by a big offensive night from Rebekah VanDijk, who had a hay day against Seton Hall by posting a whopping 34 points and 11 rebounds. Ericka Mattingly rounded out the stat sheet with eight assists and three steals. UTA is ranked No. 16 in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major poll and received a vote in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll for the first time in its program history after the outstanding game.
After the weekend the Ladyjacks will have one more game on the road before their four game home series in late December. SFA will first match up against Louisiana Tech on Dec. 7th in Ruston, La. Tipoff is set for 11:15 a.m. CT.
