SFA vs. Coppin State
Friday, Nov. 25th at 3:00 p.m. CT
BALTIMORE, Md. – After a nail-biting win over George Mason last night, Stephen F. Austin is looking forward to putting a cap on their three game road streak as they face off against the Coppin State Eagles. A fourth quarter rally for the Ladyjacks against Mason was started by senior Brentney Branch, who tied her career high record for three-pointers in a game. She sunk six shots from beyond the arch and led the team with 21 points. The game sealing basket came from a pair of free-throws by redshirt junior Stevi Parker, who has been perfect at the line in the last four games. Parker had 11 points and nine rebounds on the board. Branch and Parker, along with senior Taylor Ross and sophomore Kennedy Harris, all scored in the double digit range to bring home the win for this offensive scoring team. On the defensive side, SFA continued their authority on the court with nine steals and 23 forced turnovers on the Patriots.
The Ladyjacks are now 2-3 on the season and are up against a 0-4 Coppin State team. This is the first year that the two teams have played against one another, so this will be a new adventure.
Coppin State has had a tough start to their season as they go 0-4 against top teams like Big 12’s No. 19/23 West Virginia and ACC’s University of Virginia. This will be the home opener for the Eagles since they started their first four games on the road. The Eagles are led by senior guard Keena Samuels who has averaged 17 in their last two games. Freshman center Chance Graham is averaging 7.8 rebounds a game and leads the Eagles on the boards.
After the weekend, the Ladyjacks will be back in Nacogdoches for a match up against LSU-Shreveport in the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The tip-off is set for Nov. 30th at 7:00 p.m. The game will be livestreamed on ESPN3 with play-play action on Q107.7.
