COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Ladyjacks face a 2-0 Aggie team coached by former SFA head coach Gary Blair on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. CT. SFA so far has a split record with a loss to South Dakota and a win at home against Oklahoma Panhandle State. Redshirt junior Stevi Parker leads the Ladyjacks with 31 points and 12 rebounds on the season. Sophomore Kennedy Harris had a terrific night against OPSU, putting up 15 points for SFA. She was part of an aggressive Ladyjacks offense that turned out four Ladyjacks in the double digits. Freshman Alaysia Ready is continuing to have a breakout year after claiming seven steals on the OPSU Aggies. As a team, the Ladyjacks forced 41 turnovers and converted them into 40 points on the board.
Stephen F. Austin and Texas A&M have clashed seventeen times since 1976. SFA currently leads the series between the two teams 14-3 with the help of a ten game win streak back in the 1980s. However, the last two games in 2007-08 and 2009-10 have been claimed by the Aggies.
Scouting the Aggies: Texas A&M has won both their games to start the season. The first was against SFA’s Southland Conference rival Central Arkansas, and then the Aggies won against Texas Tech last night in a nerve-racking overtime game. The Aggies are led by Dani Williams, who has had 25+ points in each of her games this season. Texas A&M current ranks 24th in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll.
SFA former Coach and current Texas A&M coach, Gary Blair coached the Ladyjacks back in the late 80s and early 90s. He holds the Ladyjack record for most winningest coach at SFA by winning percentage (.830). Coach Blair turned out several players from SFA that went on to play on international professional teams. The main starlet there being the 1990 Kodak All-American and US National team player, Portia Hill.
Tipoff between the Ladyjacks and Aggies is set for 4:00 p.m. CT on Sunday. The game will be live streamed on the SEC+ Network.
After the weekend, the Ladyjacks will continue their three game road streak at George Mason in Fairfax, Va. That game will be on Wednesday Nov. 23rd at 6:00 p.m. CT.
