Ladyjacks Wrap Up Play at ITA Regional Presented by Oracle

WACO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women’s tennis doubles teams of Lauren Hidalgo-Smith and Darinka Tiboldi and Denise Maxl and Kaja Ljubic both moved into the semifinals of the consolation round at the ITA Regionals Presented by Oracle at Baylor University on Sunday, but each team suffered a setback in that round to conclude their competition at the fall tournament.
Ljubic and Maxl punched their ticket to a semifinal bout by scoring an 8-3 triumph over the Texas State duo of Pippa Carr and Joy Ming Ming Chia. On the opposite side of the bracket, Hidalgo-Smith and Tiboldi advanced by default after the Abilene Christian team of Erin Walker and Whitney Williams withdrew from the event.
Pitted against Texas State’s tandem of Eva Dench and Alex Jones in the first semifinal tilt, Tiboldi and Hidalgo-Smith battled valiantly, but ultimately suffered an 8-4 defeat. Opposing Ljubic and Maxl in the other semifinal showdown were UT-Arlington’s Angeles De los Rios and Agustina Serio and the Ladyjacks’ senior/sophomore tandem wound up on the wrong side of an 8-2 decision.
The Ladyjacks’ fall season is now in the books and they now turns their attention to preparing for its spring 2017 campaign which is scheduled to begin on Saturday, Jan. 28, in Tyler, Texas, with a match against Midwestern State.
