NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin athletics marketing team has been honored as the Bronze Winner for Student Promotion by the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), as announced in the 24th annual NACMA Convention last month.
The prestigious award was presented to SFA for the promotion of ESPN’s College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon by the athletics marketing department and external staff. The Lumberjack basketball team played host to Northern Iowa on November 18 at 8:00 a.m. inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Thanks in large part to the athletics marketing department, SFA was able to play in front of a near capacity crowd, as 7,096 fans were on hand to witness the early morning game televised on ESPN2. With the excitement built up for the game through social media and community outreach, enthusiastic members of Lumberjack nation even camped out over night to pile into the coliseum at daybreak.
“I’m extremely proud of the work of our external staff, especially the athletic marketing team,” said associate athletics director of external affairs John Branch. “They put a lot of time and effort into creating an exciting atmosphere for the fans and the team and the hard work really paid off.”
SFA’s athletic marketing staff is headed by Travis Turner and Brent Gallagher.
