
SFA Cruises To 30th-Straight Home Win

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin men’s basketball team cruised to its 30th-straight home court win and reclaimed sole possession of the NCAA’s longest active home win streak in a 74-54 thumping of McNeese State on Saturday evening inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
SFA (22-2, 11-0 SLC) never trailed and led by as much as 25 points (41-16) as it broke its tie with No. 11 Duke for consecutive home wins, who played on the road on Saturday. The ‘Jacks also picked up their 19th-straight overall win, which sits fourth in the country and one behind No. 5 San Diego State, who also won on Saturday.
Head coach Brad Underwood recorded his 22nd win at the helm, continuing to add to the most for a coach in their first season at SFA.
The ‘Jacks placed four of their five starters in double figures and sophomore Trey Pinkney recorded eight assists against McNeese (7-16, 5-6 SLC). Senior Desmond Haymon recorded a game-high 19 points, as senior Nikola Gajic finished with 15 points. Both seniors made six shots from the field, as Gaijc did most of his damage behind the arc finishing five-of-eight. Gajic swiped four steals for a second-straight game to tie his career-high.
Sophomore Thomas Walkup also made six shots from the field, recording 15 points, while junior Jacob Parker finished with 10 points.
SFA, which shot 48 percent from the field and 86 percent at the line, held a 30-24 advantage in points the paint and a walloping 28-6 mark in points off turnovers.
The ‘Jacks, who hold the nation’s most road wins at 10 overall and entered the week still leading with their eight-game road win streak, will leave WRJ Coliseum for the first time in four games when SFA heads to Lamar for a 7:30 p.m. tip on Thursday, Feb. 13.
