NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin Director of Athletics Robert Hill announced on Wednesday the hiring of Ted Smith as the new Director of Athletic Development.
“We are so pleased that Ted has agreed to join us," Hill said. "Annual giving to our athletic program is an important part of our success. Without these funds we are not able to provide the “extras” necessary to winning and graduating our student-athletes. Ted has a great background in public relations and business and has a great love for SFA. I expect him to play a key role in our future.”
Smith will be in charge of coordinating annual and one-time giving to the athletic department, as well as expanding overall fundraising efforts. His primary responsibility will be to direct all operations of the SFA Varsity Club - the department's annual fund.
A 2007 graduate of SFA, Smith has been a resident of Nacogdoches for nearly 18 years. As a part-time student, Smith worked for 10 years at Temple Inland’s North Boggy Slough Wildlife Management Area and Conference Center, entertaining and building relationships with customers.
A Houston-area native, Smith spent three years in East Texas Oil & Gas Exploration, leasing and purchasing mineral rights. Most recently, Smith served as the General Manager of Piney Woods Country Club, overseeing the clubhouse and golf course day-to-day operations.
Smith and his wife Hollie are parents of son, Austin, and daughter Averie. Hollie is also an employee of SFA, serving as the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for Programs.
