NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin media relations assistant Ben Rikard has been promoted to assistant director of media relations for the upcoming 2011-12 athletic season, director of athletics Robert Hill announced on Monday.
Rikard has been a member of the athletic media relations staff for each of the past four years, working primarily with the Lumberjack baseball team as well as the Ladyjack women's basketball and volleyball squads.
"Ben has been an important part of our department for the last four years and has brought a lot of knowledge and insight into the position, which made it a very easy decision when this opportunity for advancement became available," director of media relations James Dixon said.
A 2006 graduate of Stephen F. Austin with a degree in radio/TV and a minor in journalism, Rikard has served time as the play-by-play voice for both Lumberjack baseball and most recently Ladyjack basketball. He also recently headed up the all-America campaign for outfielder Bryson Myles, who was named an all-American by five separate publications this season.
He served on the statistical crew for the 2010 FCS Championship Game in Frisco, Texas, and is the primary statistician for all home volleyball, women's basketball and baseball events. Rikard also helps maintain the department's athletic Web site, www.sfajacks.com.
Following his 2006 graduation, Rikard was part of the media relations department at the University of North Texas where he served as the primary volleyball, track and field, and swimming and diving contact for the Mean Green. He was also courtside when the Mean Green men's basketball team won the 2007 Sun Belt Conference Tournament and advanced to just it's second NCAA Tournament in school history.
