
SFA's Long Distance Shooting Helps Beat UTPA, 69-58

EDINBURG, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks led start to finish in a 69-58 victory over UTPA Saturday evening at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
Three Ladyjacks scored in double-digits, including a game-high 19 points from Tammara Marion. SFA's bench outscored UTPA's 34-17 which included 11-point performances, and career highs, from both Annette Davis and Ashley Bettis.
Marion, who came into Saturday averaging 20 points per game over her last four contests, came up one point shy of her fourth 20-point performance of the season. The senior guard shot 5-of-12 from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point territory and 6-of-6 from the free throw stripe.
SFA (8-1) shot 44 percent from the field and outrebounded UTPA 37-25. The Ladyjacks were spectacular from three-point territory, connecting on a season-best 10 three-pointers on 19 attempts.
UTPA was led in scoring LaQuita Garner (15 points) and Bianca Torre (14 points).
SFA was on fire from three-point territory in the first half, including freshman Ashley Bettis who made three, three-pointers. The Ladyjacks built a 29-12 lead with six minutes remaining in the half but the Broncs were able to cut their deficit to 40-33 at halftime.
The Ladyjacks will next be in action on Saturday, Dec. 17 when they host Arkansas State at 7 p.m.
