
SFA Routes Henderson St. 94-58 In Exhibition

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks used a collective effort and displayed their talented depth in a 94-58 exhibition victory over Henderson State Saturday evening at the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Senior guard Tammara Marion, who enters the season as a Southland Conference preseason first-team all-conference selection, led the way for the Ladyjacks with a game and team-high 22 points on 8-of-10 shooting, including 4-of-5 from three-point territory.
The Ladyjacks shot a sizzling 51 percent from the field (36-of-70) and were on fire all night from beyond the arch, shooting 44 percent (11-of-25). SFA limited the Lady Reddies to only 37 percent shooting and won the turnover battle 18-32.
SFA busted the game open early, going on a 13-4 run that increased the Ladyjacks lead from 13-11 to 26-15 when freshman Ashley Betties connected on one of SFA's 11 three-pointers on the evening. The lead would climb as high as 43-26 with 55 seconds remaining in the first half until HSU closed the gap to 43-29 at halftime.
In the second half the Ladyjacks turned it up a notch on the defensive end, limiting the Lady Reddies to only 29 percent shooting, as opposed to 50 percent in the first half. At night's end SFA finished with 16 steals, including a game-high five from freshman Tierany Henderson.
The Ladyjacks outscored HSU 51-29 in the second half and really opened up the game late, taking their biggest lead of the night (86-46) at the 7:58 mark.
Six different Ladyjacks scored eight or more points: Marion (22), Annette Davis (11), Wykeia Sanders (10), Brittney Matthew (9), Daylyn Harris (9) and Ashlee Mells (8). Henderson St. was led by Cheree Freeman, who pumped in 21 points on 5-of-10 shooting and was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line.
The Ladyjacks will open the regular season next Friday, Nov. 11 when they travel to Louisiana-Monroe. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
