
Marion's Game-Winner Helps SFA Move To 5-0

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Tammara Marionhit a game-winning jumper with five seconds remaining in regulation and the SFA Ladyjacks improved to 5-0 on the season with a dramatic 66-65 victory over Southern Miss to win the Southern Miss Thanksgiving Tournament Saturday evening.
SFA stands at 5-0 for the first time since the 1989-90 season. Marion scored a season and game-high 25 points by connecting on 9-of-26 from the floor, but even more impressive was 6-of-14 from three-point territory. Marion also set the SFA school career record for three-pointers made (184), surpassing the previous record of 178 held by Dayna Reed.
SFA (5-0) was trailing 65-62 with under a minute left in regulation but following a turnover by USM's Jamierra Faulkner, the Ladyjacks cut the deficit to 65-64 on a jumper by Amina Sawyerwith 50 seconds remaining. Then out of a timeout a Faulkner's missed shot was rebounded by Sawyer and SFA called a timeout with 15 seconds remaining with a shot at the win.
That setup the game-winning shot by Marion with only five seconds remaining and USM was unable to get a shot off.
Freshman center Porsha Robertsalso scored in double digits (12 points) and had a team-leading five rebounds and two blocks.
The Ladyjacks stormed out to a 29-15 lead in the first half but the Lady Eagles closed strong by going on a 21-5 run to take a 35-34 lead into halftime. SFA outscored Southern Miss 32-30 in the second half with 11 of those points coming from Marion.
Southern Miss (2-3) was led in scoring by Tanecka Carey (21 points) and Faulkner (17 points).
SFA will finish their current road swing Tuesday, Nov. 29 when they travel to future Southland Conference foe Houston Baptist (0-6) at 7 p.m.
