CONWAY, Ark. - Central Arkansas hit nine three-point baskets in the first half and kept the Ladyjacks at bay the entire night on its way to a 78-66 win over SFA on Wednesday at the Farris Center.
SFA (4-11, 1-1 SLC) actually outshot the Sugar Bears (9-6, 1-1 SLC) for the game, but was hampered by UCA's 12-for-22 night from behind the arc, including five triples from sophomore Micah Rice. Reigning SLC Freshman of the Year Megan Herbert led all scorers and rebounders with 27 points and 18 rebounds.
Jordan Ford had her highest scoring output since the season opener at North Texas, leading SFA with 17 points and six rebounds. She was one of three Ladyjacks in double figures with Ebony Alexander adding 14 and Tammara Marion adding 13 off the bench.
UCA hit nine of their 13 tries from behind the arc in the first half, including all four of Rice's tries as they built a 46-35 that might have been more had SFA not canned 11 of its 15 free throw tries in the initial frame.
The Sugar Bears never let the lead get back to single digits either in the second half, building the lead to as much as 18 midway through the second half. The trio of Herbert, Rice and Guiden combined to score 64 of the Sugar Bears' 78 points on the night.
SFA returns home on Saturday to continue SLC play when it hosts UTSA at William R. Johnson Coliseum at 6:00 p.m.
