NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Due to concerns over the rising number of confirmed swine flu cases in the state, the University Interscholastic League has opted to cancel all regional track and field meets. The meets, which include the Class A, Region III competition originally scheduled for this weekend at Stephen F. Austin, will not be rescheduled, and the UIL state meet will be reconfigured to allow for an extra round of qualifying heats.
The state meet is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 14-16, in Austin, Texas. A revised copy of the meet schedule will be available on the UIL Web site (www.uil.utexas.edu/) no later than Friday, May 1. The UIL plans to announce qualifiers for the state meet on Wednesday, May 6, via the Web site.
State qualifiers for Class A participants will be determined based upon results from the area meets. The top four area performances in each event will advance to the semifinals of the state meet. An electronic copy of a results list for Region III competitors will be available on the SFA Athletics Web site (www.sfajacks.com) later this week. High school coaches are encouraged to download the file and check to ensure that their athletes' information has been entered correctly, as this list will be the one used by UIL officials to determine the state meet participants. The link to the file will be posted in the right-hand side bar under the "Features" heading on the home page at SFAJacks.com.
