NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Despite a double-double from sophomore guard Ebony Alexander, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks dropped a 65-51 decision to Texas-San Antonio Saturday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum in the regular-season finale. The Ladyjacks enter the Southland Conference Championship tournament as the fifth-seed after posting a 15-13 overall record, and a 10-6 conference mark.
Alexander finished the night with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but the Ladyjacks could not overcome an 18-of-65 (.295) shooting performance. The Ladyjacks also struggled from beyond the arc missing all 14 attempts from three-point land.
UTSA finished the night 25-of-62 (.403) from the field, and out-rebounded the Ladyjacks by five, 45-40. The Roadrunners had two players finish with a double-double, and had three players pull down 10 rebounds. UTSA senior Onika Anderson led all scorers with 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Monica Gibbs added 19 points and 10 boards.
UTSA took advantage of their opportunities in the low post ending the night with a 34-20 scoring advantage in the paint. The Ladyjacks' reserves outscored UTSA's bench, 15-9.
Junior Whitney Cormier led the Ladyjacks with 15 points, and also pulled down four rebounds. Freshman Schera Sampson added seven points and blocked a shot, while classmate Tammara Marion added six points and grabbed three boards.
The Ladyjacks return to action Wednesday when they open the Southland Conference Championships against fourth-seeded Lamar. The Ladyjacks dropped the lone meeting against Lamar earlier this season.
