CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team got 23 points from junior Natashia Green to defeat Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 66-63, Wednesday evening at the American Bank Center. The win bumps SFA to 11-16 on the season, and 8-7 in Southland Conference play. More importantly, the Ladyjacks earned a berth in the conference tournament.
The Ladyjacks opened the game by knocking down 13-of-29 (.448) shots in the first half to build a five-point halftime advantage, 29-24. The Ladyjacks also forced Texas A&M-Corpus Christi into 12 first-half turnovers which SFA converted into seven points.
Junior Natashia Green came off the bench to spark the SFA attack, scoring 14 first-half points on 6-o-8 shooting. She also pulled down three rebounds, and recorded a block.
The Ladyjacks continued their sharp shooting in the second half, finishing the game 24-of-55 (.436) from the floor. The Islanders shot the ball at a 42-percent clip, but were hurt by turnovers. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi turned the ball over 17 times which SFA turned into 12 points.
Senior Nikki Carr scored 17 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Freshman Decreasha Goodner added nine points, and classmate Antoinette Davis chipped in seven.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday when they return home to host Texas-San Antonio in the 2007-08 regular-season finale. The game against the Roadrunners is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
