
SFA Graduate Athletic Training Student Receives Research Scholarship

NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin graduate athletic training student Coy Van Valkenburgh has been named a recipient of a $2,500 scholarship from the J. Pat Evans Research Foundation officials announced Wednesday afternoon. A second-year graduate athletic training student, Van Valkenburgh has handled various athletic team assignments while enrolled in SFA's entry-level graduate program.
The J. Pat Evans Research Foundation works to provide scholarships to help advance the science and medicine related to equestrian sporting events. The mission of the foundation is to establish and promote medical and scientific research, education and development programs to ensure the continued growth of equestrian sports and the safety of its participants.
Evans is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who has served as the team physician for the Dallas Cowboys and the Dallas Mavericks. He is one of the original physicians in the country to focus in sports medicine, and has spent the better part of four decades focusing on the medical needs associated with equestrian sports.
