DALLAS, Texas - The SFA equestrian team kicked off its spring season on Saturday with a hunt-seat only competition at SMU, but the Ladyjacks didn't have quite enough as the Mustangs captured a 10-2 win.
SFA fell 5-1 in both equitation over fences and equitation on the flat to SMU with the Mustangs claiming each of the MVP awards for the show as well.
Junior Alex Berry scored the high mark of 72 points in equitation over fences, but still fell to Lauren Hester by a 75-72 count. It was Alex Fincher that tallied the lone Ladyjack point in equitation over fences with a 55-35 win over Erica Buie. Overall, the Mustangs would outscore SFA 415-387 in the event.
Equitation on the flat would not fare much better as the Mustangs claimed five of the six available points, outscoring SFA 432-366. Once again it was Alex Fincher coming through with the only Ladyjack point, posting an 80-65 win over Maia Vandyke with the 80 points being the second-highest overall total in the event.
The Ladyjacks will continue the spring season on Saturday when they host their first show of 2008 against Baylor at noon. The show will take place at the Walter C. Todd Agricultural Center.
