NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin director of athletics Robert Hill announced Wednesday that veteran athletic trainer Loree McCary will serve as the Senior Woman Administrator for the athletics department. The position shift fills a void left this spring when former assistant athletics director for student services and Senior Woman Administrator Stephanie McDonald left SFA to accept a position with the Southland Conference.
The Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) position at an NCAA institution is typically held by the highest-ranking female administrator in the athletics department. The SWA is charged with representing the department at various meetings at both the conference and NCAA level. The position traditionally plays a major role in ensuring institutional compliance with Title IX legislation and policies.
"We feel very fortunate to have been able to add the SWA title to Loree's responsibilities," Hill said Wednesday. "She is a veteran and vital member of our administrative staff, and we expect her to be a great representative of our department in her new capacity."
In the weeks leading up to Wednesday's announcement, Hill and McCary have worked together to expand the role of the SWA at SFA. Her additional duties will include oversight of an improved life skills initiative for Lumberjack and Ladyjack athletes, implementation of a program to look after and assist with the overall well-being of SFA student-athletes, and management of the department's lettering policies and procedures for each of its 16 varsity sports.
McCary is currently in her 17th year as an athletic trainer at SFA. Her primary responsibility is overseeing the care and rehabilitation of female athletes. She is the head trainer for the Ladyjack basketball team and assists with all other sports' training needs. McCary is a 1988 graduate of Kansas State. She obtained her master's degree from Florida in 1990.
