NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin department of intercollegiate athletics announced Friday the addition of three employees to the department's support staff. Chris Dane, Brittany Burton and Adelaida Sanchez will all join the department on a full-time basis this fall. Dane will fill a vacancy on the athletic training staff, while Burton and Sanchez will enter newly created positions within the department.
Dane will take over the slot vacated earlier this year when athletic trainer Billy Bobo left the department to pursue other opportunities. Dane holds two degrees and has served as a student trainer at two different collegiate institutions. Most recently, Dane was head volleyball and women's tennis trainer at Texas State, where he graduated this spring with a master of education degree in physical education. Prior to that stop, Dane was a student athletic trainer for three years at West Texas A&M. During his time there, Dane served as the head student trainer for men's basketball, spring football, men's soccer and volleyball. Dane earned a bachelor of science in sports and exercise science from West Texas A&M.
Burton will begin her first full-time position with the department after being associated with athletics for the last six years -- the first five as a student-athlete and the last as a graduate assistant in the SFA strength and conditioning program. As a four-year starter for the Ladyjack volleyball team, Burton helped lead SFA to a share of the Southland Conference championship in 2004. She was a two-time All-SLC selection, including being named the conference Player of the Year in 2004. Burton spent last year working as a graduate assistant under strength and conditioning coordinator Dan Eason. She will begin work this fall as the first full-time assistant in the strength and conditioning program. Burton holds a bachelor of science in health science and a master of education in kinesiology.
Sanchez is also moving from a graduate assistant to a full-time position with the department. She spent last year as an assistant in the media relations office. During that time, Sanchez was responsible for promoting and reporting on the sports of volleyball, softball and tennis. Before coming to SFA, Sanchez logged two-and-a-half years as a media relations assistant at Texas A&M-Kingsville. She also spent one season as a media relations intern with the Corpus Christi Rayz professional hockey team. Sanchez holds a bachelor of arts degree in communication from A&M-Kingsville.
