Lazenby Improves on Regional Long Jump Mark

HOUSTON - Stephen F. Austin junior Reggie Lazenby continued his climb up the list of the top long jumpers in the country Saturday at the Houston Invitational. Lazenby won the long jump with a season-best mark of 25-04.50. That jump was Lazenby's fifth NCAA regional qualifying mark of the season and ranks seventh in the nation, compared to the most recently compiled performance lists.
The jump improved on Lazenby's previous best by two inches. He holds the best mark in the Southland Conference heading into next weekend's league championships. The next-closest competitor is nearly eight inches short of Lazenby's best mark.
Several other SFA athletes turned in solid performances Saturday in their last tune-up before the conference championships. Zach Ross joined Lazenby on the podium with a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. He finished with a time of 14.59. Bo Simpson took fifth in the event with a time of 15.12.
In the pole vault, Mike Ludlow tied a season-best height of 16-00.75 to take fourth. Geoffrey Carey finished fifth with a height of 15-07.00. James Williams turned in a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 52-05.50.
On the women's side, Laura Mikeska took third place in the pole vault with a height of 11-11.75. Kristina Windham went over at the same height to finish fifth. Stevina Wyatt turned in a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, where she ran a time of 1:02.31. Crystal Chang and Meghan Denman tied for fourth in the high jump, each clearing 5-05.00. Audrey Azu took sixth with the same height but more missed attempts. LaQuisha Houston recorded a throw of 43-02.50 to take fourth place in the shot put.
SFA will return to action for the SLC Championships next weekend. The meet is scheduled to begin on Saturday, May 13 and run through Monday, May 15, at the University of Texas-Arlington.
