
Monteau Captures 5,000 Meters Title

ARLINGTON, Texas - Ashley Monteau recorded her second individual championship in as many days on Monday, when she won the 5,000-meter run to lead the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks to a third-place team finish in the Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Monteau won the event with a time of 17:00.22, less than 48 hours after winning the 10,000 meters Saturday night. Monteau's first-place finish Monday was SFA's fifth individual championship of the meet and one of three All-SLC performances by the SFA women on Monday. The Ladyjacks finished with an overall score of 101.50 points. The Lumberjacks got All-Southland Conference showings Monday in the sprint relay and 5,000 meters to finish fourth as a team with an overall score of 90 points.
Stevina Wyatt took second place in the 400-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 1:00.02. Katrina Roundtree posted the Ladyjacks' other all-conference performance with her third-place finish in the 400 meters. Her time of 54.53 was a regional qualifying mark. Two Ladyjacks just missed All-SLC honors with fourth-place finishes. LaKoa McKeever posted a time of 4:44.74 in the 1,500 meters, and Kristina Windham cleared 11-05.75 in the pole vault. Teammates Ashley Dickeson and Laura Mikeska cleared the same height with more misses to finish sixth and seventh, respectively. The Ladyjack sprint relay team of Teshania Langston, Krystal McKnight, Katrina Roundtree and Stevina Wyatt took sixth place with a time of 46.95.
On the men's side, Rodney Joseph and the 4x100-meter relay team each recorded all-conference performances. The team of Erik Powell, Stephon Rhea, Alex Harris and Johnny Thacker finished third with a regional qualifying time of 40.48. Joseph took second place in the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:01.20. Teddy Fanta and Keith Mahipala finished fifth and sixth in the event, respectively. Fanta clocked in at 15:08.65, and Mahipala finished a second behind. A day after winning the long jump championship with a school record mark, Reggie Lazenby finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.48. In the pole vault, Mike Ludlow cleared 16-00.75 to finish seventh.
The NCAA Regional Championships are scheduled for May 26-27.
