
Chang Records Provisional Qualifying Mark

AUSTIN, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's Crystal Chang finished seventh in the heptathlon Thursday at the Texas Relays. She scored 5,266 points, an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and less than 300 points short of an automatic qualifying mark.
Chang came into the final day of competition Thursday in 12th place, after scoring 3,155 points. She posted a mark of 5.46 meters in the long jump and 36.64 meters in the javelin before winning the final event of the day, the 800-meter run. Chang posted a time of 2:17.67 in the 800 to earn 855 points and vault into seventh place overall. She was sixth among collegiate competitors.
In men's multi competition, SFA's Bo Simpson and Aaron Harlan finished 10th and 11th, respectively, in the decathlon. Simpson tallied 6,629 points. He recorded a time of 15.28 in the 110-meter hurdles and ran 5:09.57 in the 1,500 meters. Simpson threw the discus 38.60 meters and launched the javelin a distance of 40.30 meters. He cleared 3.90 meters in the pole vault. Harlan totaled 6,507 points. He ran the 110 hurdles in 15.10, posted a time of 5:10.47 in the 1,500, threw the discus 31.47 meters, cleared 4.20 meters in the pole vault and threw the javelin 39.83 meters.
Action in the Texas Relays resumed Friday morning and will continue through Saturday.
