
Ladyjacks Take Fourth in IHSA Competition

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack equestrian team turned in a pair of fourth-place finishes at Texas A&M over the weekend in their final Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competitions of the regular season. The Ladyjacks finished alone in fourth in the nine-team field Saturday and tied with Rice in Sunday's show. Both competitions were western IHSA-format shows.
The Ladyjacks took fourth place Saturday with 15 total points. Two SFA riders recorded Top 3 finishes. Amy Hilfer took third place in beginner horsemanship, Section I, and Heather Sowers finished third in Section I of intermediate horsemanship. Jamie Melgares took fourth in reining, Section II and finished fifth in open horsemanship, Section I. Jenny Martin recorded fifth-place finishes in both Section III of reining and Section III of open horsemanship. Monika Brindley took fifth in novice horsemanship, Section II.
On Sunday, SFA rode to 12 points and a fourth-place tie with Rice behind a pair of Top 3 performances by Melgares. She finished second in reining, Section III and finished third in Section II of open horsemanship. Martin took fourth in reining, Section II and sixth in Section I of open horsemanship. Sowers turned in a fourth-place finish in intermediate horsemanship, Section II. Hilfer took fifth in beginner horsemanship, Tricia Sutton was sixth in advanced horsemanship, and Brindley took sixth place in novice horsemanship, Section I.
The Ladyjacks' next competition will be a home show on March 25 against South Carolina. The competition will follow the NCAA varsity format with both hunt seat and western events. SFA's next IHSA action is scheduled for March 26, when Texas A&M hosts the IHSA Regional Championships.
