
Ladyjacks Fall to Nicholls State

THIBODAUX, La. - The Southland Conference-leading Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team fell to Nicholls State, 68-67, on the road Saturday at Stopher Gymnasium. SFA led by as many as 13 points in the first half, but Nicholls State shot 55.6 percent in the second half and outscored the Ladyjacks, 43-33, in the final period to collect the win.
SFA fell to 15-7 on the season and 9-2 in Southland Conference action, while the Lady Colonels improved to 4-18 overall and 3-8 in SLC play. The loss was just the second SFA has suffered in its series against Nicholls State and broke a run of 31 straight Ladyjack victories over the Lady Colonels.
Senior forward LaToya Mills recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Mills was joined in double figures by classmates Britany Vinson and Kirby Killingsworth, who scored 17 and 13 points, respectively. Both players went 3-of-9 from 3-point range. Sophomore guard Nikkie Carr added five points and four assists.
Katherine Plummer scored 18 points to lead three Nicholls State players in double figures. Jamie Octave and Claire Barry joined her with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Plummer added eight assists, and Kelli Brasher chipped in with nine points.
SFA out-rebounded the Lady Colonels, 40-34, but committed 17 turnovers to Nicholls State's 13. The Lady Colonels held a solid edge at the free throw line, where they went 15-of-21 against a 6-of-10 showing by the Ladyjacks.
SFA will return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 16, for a home game against McNeese State. The contest is set to tip off at 7 p.m. from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
