NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team will wrap up the 2005 season Thursday afternoon when it hosts conference rival Sam Houston State at 2 p.m., at the SFA Tennis Courts. The Bearkats enter the contest with a 9-9 (.500) overall record and a 4-5 (.444) Southland Conference mark. The Ladyjacks are 6-13 (.316) on the season and 1-8 (.111) in the conference.
Saying Good-Bye to the Seniors: The Ladyjacks match against Sam Houston State will mark the final home match for four seniors. SFA will be saying good-bye to Melissa Bass, Robin Houston, Ashley Johnson and Emily Voss. Bass was a 2004 Academic All-Southland Conference and ITA All-Academic team member that played at the Nos. 5 and 6 singles positions and the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles spots. Houston has been the Ladyjacks No. 1 singles player for the past three seasons, who earned conference player of the week honors back in February. Johnson has been one of the most improved players on the team as a senior. She is currently second on the team with 14 singles victories to go along with her 13 doubles wins. Voss entered her senior season as one of the team's top six players but her season was cut short by a hand injury.
The Last Time Out: The Ladyjacks are coming off a road trip to Louisiana where they split two decisions. SFA defeated Nicholls State, 6-0, last Saturday in Thiboduax, but lost to Southeastern Louisiana, 7-0, in Hammond.
