NACOGDOCHES - Leigh Heusner was handed the reins of building the Ladyjack Equestrian program as she was named the program's first head coach announced SFA Athletics Director Steve McCarty Wednesday morning.
"We're very pleased to have Leigh joining our department," said McCarty. "We are excited about the knowledge and experience she brings to SFA. Leigh is the perfect fit to build this program as we begin a new chapter in the history of Ladyjack athletics."
Heusner comes to Nacogdoches from Plainville, Ga., where she was an assistant trainer for New Beginnings Performance Horses. During that time she handled the instruction of riders from the beginner to the advanced level. Heusner was also in charge of the training and well being of approximately 20 training horses and 40 pasture horses. Heusner has seven years of professional experience instructing riders and training horses and has served as a show judge on the collegiate level.
Heusner has a wealth of riding experience to draw on in her career. She was a letterwinner at the University of Georgia where she was named the 2002-03 Most Valuable Player for Georgia's Western team. She competed in both IHSA and NCAA shows during her time with the Lady Bulldogs, finishing 2003 as the reserve year end high-point scorer for her western team.
