STILLWATER, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin women's equestrian team competed in a pair of hunt seat shows at Oklahoma State over the weekend, finishing sixth in one show and fifth in the other. The Ladyjacks scored 17 points in Saturday's show to take fifth place of 11 teams. On Sunday, SFA scored 10 points, taking sixth place. Host team Oklahoma State and Texas A&M finished first and second, respectively, in each show.
The Ladyjacks, who do not field the full eight-rider roster that is usually used in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association competitions, were competing in their first IHSA hunt seat shows of the season.
"On Saturday, the girls rode well for their first time competing in IHSA competition," SFA assistant coach and hunt seat instructor Jennifer Wiggins said. "We ended the day strong with our final two riders of the day winning their classes."
SFA's Lindsey Gaston and Amy Hilfer notched first-place finishes in Saturday's competition. The pair of Ladyjacks were two of only three riders not from Oklahoma State or Texas A&M to win first place in any of the day's 21 classes of competition. Gaston won Section C of the Beginner Walk-Trot class, and Hilfer captured the title in Section B of Beginner Walk-Trot.
Alex Berry recorded a third-place finish in Open Fences, Section C and took sixth place in Open Flat, Section A. Haley Crane was third in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Section A. Kristina Rice notched a third-place finish in Section B of Walk-Trot-Canter. Alex Fincher and Paige Wiley took fourth place in Open Fences, Section A and Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Section A, respectively. Fincher also finished sixth in Open Flat, Section D. Cat Brennan was fifth in Novice Flat, Section A. Rebecca Harrison turned in a fifth-place finish in Open Flat, Section B and took sixth in Open Fences, Section D.
In Sunday's show, Rice led the way with her second-place finish in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Section C. Two Ladyjacks recorded fourth-place finishes - Wiley in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Section A and Gaston in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter, Section B. Hilfer placed fifth in Walk-Trot, Section A. Fincher was fifth in Open Fences, Section D and sixth in Open Flat, Section A. Harrison took fifth in Open Flat, Section B, and Berry finished sixth in Open Flat, Section C.
