STILLWATER, Okla. - The Stephen F. Austin equestrian team finished third in a pair of Western riding shows at Oklahoma State over the weekend. The Ladyjacks scored 16 points as a team in Saturday's show to finish behind Oklahoma State and Texas A&M and scored 17 points Sunday, with A&M and Oklahoma State again leading the way. The shows featured a nine-team field that included squads from Rice, Texas State, Baylor, Southern Nazarene, North Central Texas and Redlands Community College.
Jenny Martin paced the Ladyjacks with a pair of second-place performances in the open horsemanship division. She was also fourth in reining on Saturday and finished second in reining in Sunday's show. On both days, SFA tied with A&M for second place in the open division -- the highest level of horsemanship competition in Intercollegiate Horse Show Association scoring.
Other individual highlights for SFA included Lauren Macomber's second-place showing in the novice division on Sunday. Heather Sowers finished second in the intermediate division in both shows, helping the team to a pair of second-place showings in that class. Amy Hilfer took third place in Sunday's beginner class.
SFA will host an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday and will welcome South Dakota State to Nacogdoches for a show on Nov. 20.
