ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks fell just short Tuesday night of advancing to the second round of the Southland Conference Postseason Tournament in dropping a 69-61 decision to UT-Arlington, in Arlington. The loss ends the Ladyjacks season at 9-19 while UT-Arlington moves to 18-11 on the year and will advance to Thursday night's semi-final round.
UT-Arlington held the inside duo of LaToya Mills and Kendria Smith to only 13 points in the game and also kept SFA off the boards, outrebounding the Ladyjacks 42-29 on the night. Mills played only five minutes of the first half after early foul trouble and fouled out of the game with 2:30 to play, scoring only six points. Smith had only two points heading into the final minute of play, but ended the night with seven points, scoring five in the final 60 seconds of action.
Nikki Carr led SFA with 12 points and was joined in double figures by Alex Bowman and Stacey Szymanski with 10 points each. Carr was 4-6 from the field, including 2-2 on three point attempts in the game. Tiffany Perkins added six points for SFA.
SFA shot only 57 percent at the free throw line and could not make up ground on UT-Arlington late in the second half at the stripe. UT-Arlington made five of its last eight shots at the line to help seal the win. Rolo Oguneye led UT-Arlington with 22 points while Tara Wallace added 13 off the bench.
