NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team continues its season Wednesday when it opens a six-game homestand against North Texas. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., at the SFA Intramural Complex. The Ladyjacks will be right back in action two days later when they host Texas-El Paso. The game against the Miners is slated to get under way at 7 p.m.
Offensive Explosion: After being shutout in their first two games, the Ladyjacks rebounded with two big victories last week. SFA knocked off Tennessee-Martin, 5-2, and then traveled to Shreveport, La., and defeated the Ladies, 2-0. Sophomore Kendra Cannon (Kilgore, Texas) led the Ladyjacks with five points (two goals and an assist). Cannon improved her totals as the school's all-time leader in points and goals. She now has 37 career points and 16 career goals to her credit. She is also eighth all-time in school history with five assists. Sophomore goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki (Calgary, Alberta) recorded her first shutout of the season to give her seven career shutouts. She is currently third all-time with 182 saves.
Youthful Explosion: It hasn't been just the veterans getting the job done for SFA in its recent two-game win streak but the rookies have gotten into the act as well. Shahin Pabani (Calgary, Albert) netted her first goal in the victory over Centenary. Sarah Butler (Austin, Texas) and Alicia Reese (Spring, Texas) netted their first-career goals in the win over Tennessee-Martin.
Up Next... The Ladyjacks will remain at the SFA Intramural Complex to take on Texas Tech on Friday Sept. 19. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
