NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team will put its unbeaten streak on the line this week as it opens Southland Conference play with three games in fives days. SFA will open Wednesday against McNeese State. The game against the Cowgirls is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. The Ladyjacks will return to action Friday as they take on Texas State in a 7 p.m. battle. The Ladyjacks close out the homestand Sunday with a 2 p.m., game against Sam Houston State. All games will be played at the SFA Intramural Complex.
The Streak After opening the season with consecutive losses, the Ladyjacks have been cruising, rattling off four wins in their last five games. The only setback during that stretch was a 1-1 tie to Texas Tech. SFA was outscored 10-0 in the first two games, but has outscored its opponents, 15-7 since. The Ladyjacks defense has been suffocating, surrendering no more than two goals to any of its last five opponents, including a shutout of Centenary. Sophomore goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki has a 1.29 goal against average in that same stretch.
The Grand Cannon Sophomore Kendra Cannon has picked up this season where she left off as a freshman. Cannon leads the team in points (11), goals (4) and assists (3) this season. She is also the school's all-time leader in points and goals and is second all-time in assists behind teammate Christie Mestayer.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks hit the road for two games starting with a Friday Oct. 3rd showdown against Nicholls State. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. SFA will then travel to Hammond, La., for a 2 p.m. game against Southeastern Louisiana on Sunday Oct. 5th.
