The SFA Softball team (8-7) travels to Austin this evening for a pair of non-conference games with the nation's 12th ranked team, the University of Texas, starting at 5:00 p.m. Texas enters the game at 14-0 on the season and took a pair from the University of Texas-Arlington over the weekend.
The 'Jacks meanwhile enter the non-conference doubleheader having won four of their last five five games, including three straight to close out the Houston Hilton Plaza Tournament at the University of Houston over the weekend.
SFA found some offense over the weekend, highlighted by the bat of outfielder Carrie Woydziak. The Round Rock freshman hit an even .500 for the weekend, collecting eight hits in 16 at-bats while driving in three runs and scoring a team high six runs in the five game tournament. Woydziak raised her batting average to .310 for the season.
Lee Lara leads the team with a .333 average and also holds the team lead in home runs with two, and RBIs with 13. Lara has a .571 slugging percentage and has six extra base hits among her 14 hits in 15 games this season. Her 24 total bases also lead the team in that category.
As a team, SFA has raised its team batting average to .224 for the year, fourth in the SLC. The team ERA also stands at 2.62, also fourth in the conference.
Following Wednesday's meeting with Texas, SFA travels to Huntsville Saturday to open conference play against Sam Houston. The Bearkats host Prairie View A&M today and enter their final non-conference tune-up at 1-11. Saturday's conference opener is set to get underway at 1:00 p.m., with a single game set for Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
