NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team looks to rebound from its first conference loss of the season Friday night when it hosts Louisiana-Monroe. The game against the Lady Indians is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. SFA will be right back on the field Sunday for a 2 p.m., showdown against Northwestern State. Both games will be played at the SFA Intramural Complex.
Rollin' Along: Despite the setback against Southeastern Louisiana, the Ladyjacks are out to one of their best starts in school history. SFA is 8-3-1 (.708) on the season and 4-1-0 (.800) in the Southland Conference. SFA is currently tied for second in the league.
Stonewall Michalezki: Opponents are starting to feel like there is a stonewall in front of their goal when they face the Ladyjacks. And there is to a certain extent. That stonewall goes by the name of Natascia Michalezki and so far this season she has lived up to her preseason first-team all-conference billing. Michalezki is 4-1-1 in the team's last six games. During that time she has surrendered only five goals and recorded 30 saves. She has also recorded a 0.85 goals against average. She has been named SLC Goalkeeper of the Week three times this season.
The Defense Doesn't Rest: The Ladyjacks goalkeeper isn't the only player being recognized for SFA's suffocating defense. Sophomores Kim Gray (Sept. 9th) and Jaime Ronca (Sept. 23rd) have also been named SLC Defensive Player of the Week for their actions.
Attacking the Record Books: Sophomore Kendra Cannon's name can be found throughout the SFA record books. She is the school's all-time leader in points and goals. She is also the school's single-season leader in points and goals. She is also making a push to be the school's all-time leader in assists as well. With one more assist, Cannon will tie teammate Christie Mestayer as the school's all-time leader. If Cannon records two more assists this season she will also become the school's single-season assist leader.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks return to action Friday Oct. 17th to face Nicholls State. The game against the Lady Colonels will begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
