HAMMOND, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team lost a heartbreaker to Southeastern Louisiana, 2-0, Sunday afternoon. The Ladyjacks are now 8-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the Southland Conference.
Southeastern Louisiana took the lead when Kendra Oney netted a goal in the 16th minute of action, but that would be all the scoring in the first half of action. Neither team's offense got very many looks at the goal in the first half as the Lady Lions led in shots taken, 7-2.
SLU struck again in the 66th minute of action to take a 2-0 lead. It was more than enough for the Lady Lions as SFA was unable to get its offense going.
Sophomore goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki finished the game with four saves in 90 minutes of action.
The loss is the first league loss of the season and snapped an eight-game unbeaten streak for the Ladyjacks.
"This is a tough loss," said SFA head coach Nicole Nelson. "I felt like these were two evenly matched teams. I'm not disappointed that the win streak is over because they still have to come to our place and play. I'm disappointed that we played without confidence. We let them intimidate us."
The Ladyjacks will look to get back on the winning track Friday when they host Louisiana-Monroe. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex.
