NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team hits the road for the 2003 regular-season finale against McNeese State Friday afternoon. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Ladyjacks are 12-4-2 on the season and are currently second in the Southland Conference with an 8-2-1 league mark. The 12 wins by SFA this season is a new school record.
The Grand Cannon: After earning SLC Freshman of the Year honors in 2001, sophomore Kendra Cannon didn't suffer a sophomore jinx but has repeated the success that earned her all-conference honors as a freshman. Cannon leads the team with 28 points and 12 goals and is tied for second on the team with four assists. The 28 points is the second best single-season mark in school history, only to her mark of 32 points scored as a freshman. Cannon's 12 goals this year is the third-best single-season mark in school history. Cannon is only two goals shy of her school-record 14 that she scored as a freshman. Cannon is currently the school's all-time leader in points (60) and goals (26) and she is second all-time with eight assists.
A Brick Wall: Sophomore goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki has battled through injuries this year to produce another outstanding season. She has recorded 122 saves, five shutouts and is among the league leaders with a 1.52 goals against average. Her 122 saves this season is second only to the 154 saves she recorded as a freshman.
Need ASSISTance: Junior Christie Mestayer is the school's all-time leader in saves with 11, but sophomore Sara Hernandez is making a run at her teammate. Hernandez entered the 2003 season without an assist. As a sophomore, Hernandez has dished out a single-season school record of seven.
SLC Tournament Bound: The Southland Conference Championships will begin Friday Nov. 7th and go through Sunday Nov. 9th. Northwestern State will be hosting the tournament. The top six teams from the conference regular-season advance to the tournament.
