NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team closes out the home portion of the 2003 schedule this weekend with a couple of games. The Ladyjacks will face Nicholls State Friday night. The game against the Lady Colonels is set to begin at 7 p.m., from the SFA Intramural Complex. SFA's final home game will be Sunday against league-leader Southeastern Louisiana. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
Saying Good-bye Ladyjack fans will have the opportunity to say good-bye to two seniors Sunday as the Ladyjacks take on Southeastern Louisiana. Seniors Lauren Allen and Heather Matchette will be playing their final home game on Sunday. This senior class has won 31 games in their four years.
Looking to Set a Record The Ladyjacks have won 10 games during the 2003 season. If SFA wins one more game this year it will set a new school record for wins in a single season. SFA won 10 games in 1998 and 2001.
Cannon Blast Sophomore forward Kendra Cannon is chasing a little bit of school history. Cannon currently leads the team with 23 points and 10 goals. With five games left in the regular season, Cannon only needs four goals and nine points to set a new single-season record in both categories. Cannon set the record as a freshman with 32 points and 14 goals. Cannon's 23 points and 10 goals currently list as the third best season in school history.
The Great Wall of Nacogdoches Sophomore goalkeeper Natascia Michalezki has put together another strong season defending the Ladyjacks goal. She currently has a 1.52 goals against average and has recorded 105 saves this season, which is the fourth-best single-season mark in school history. She has recorded four shutouts this year and has been named SLC Goalkeeper of the Week four times. Earlier this season she set a new school-record with 24 saves in the victory over Texas-El Paso. Michalezki is currently 15 saves from being second all-time in school history.
Up Next ... The Ladyjacks return to action Friday Oct. 24th, when they travel to San Marcos, Texas, to take on Texas State. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
