NACOGDOCHES - Stephen F. Austin facilities and equipment manager Greg Payne was honored with the first annual Knight - Pickard District VII Award at the 2002 annual workshop.
The Knight - Pickard District VII Award was established in 2001 to recognize certified members of the National Athletic Equipment Managers Association for their service.
The award is named in honor of the long time equipment manager at the University of Oklahoma, the late Dorman Knight, and Billy Pickard, the legendary trainer/equipment manager at Texas A&M. Both men were founding fathers of the association.
District VII encompasses the states of Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Colorado.
Payne is entering his 23rd year at SFA and has served as the continuing education committee chair for district VII, overseeing the certification of the districts members since 1992. Payne has been actively involved in the association since 1988 serving on the original certification committee and assisting as testing writer for the original certification manual.
