Women’s Golf Finishes Ninth at Fred Marx Invitational in Louisiana

Ladyjacks shoot a 28-over 316 in final round of the Fred Marx Invitational to finish ninth in their fourth tournament of the fall season
MONROE, Louisiana – Sitting in ninth place after the first two rounds of play Monday, the Stephen F. Austin women's golf team was unable to move up the leaderboard Tuesday in the final round of play at the Fred Marx Invitational in Monroe, Louisiana. The Ladyjacks, who had shot a 329 in the opening round Monday morning and a 333 later in the afternoon, improved their score by 17 strokes Tuesday morning to finish off the two-day, three-round tournament with a final score of 114-over 978.
SFA saw two players tie for 30th on the par-72 course at the Bayou Desiard Country Club as sophomores Alexandra Batista (Trophy Club, Texas) and Paola Cortes (Allen, Texas) both shot a 28-over 244. Batista leaped 21 spots on the leaderboard between day one and day two of play, tallying a 2-over 74 in the final round after shooting a 16-over 88 Monday afternoon in the second round. Sophomore Haleigh Jordan (San Antonio, Texas) was the Ladyjacks' third-highest finisher with a two-day total of 30-over 246. She moved up six spots on the leaderboard between the second and third rounds to tie for 36th, posting a 7-over 79 Tuesday morning.
Tying for 43rd, redshirt junior Erica Lautensack (Arlington, Texas) registered a three-round score of 33-over 249 as fellow redshirt junior Jamee Jorgensen (Boerne, Texas) finished tied for 50th with a 36-over 252.
Competing as individuals, true freshman Alexis Szewczyk (McKinney, Texas) and Kelly Yang (Sugar Land, Texas) tied for 55th and 62nd, respectively. Szewczyk recorded a total score of 38-over 254, while Yang was 49-over 265 after the three rounds of play. Senior Zoey Daneshfar (Trophy Club, Texas) tallied a two-day total of 61-over 277 to place 66th.
Ohio Valley Conference member Murray State took home the team title of after finishing with a 50-over 914 and shooting a tournament-low 303 in the opening round of play. Host Louisiana-Monroe claimed runner-up honors with a two-day total of 69-over 933, while South Alabama came in third with a cumulative score of 73-over 937.
Fellow Southland Conference member Lamar had the individual champion in Elodie Chapelet, who shot a tournament-low 2-under 70 in the second round before finishing with a 4-over 220. Murray State's Linette Holmslykke and Louisiana-Monroe's Scarlett Eaton both tied for second place with scores of 11-over 227.

The Ladyjacks will wrap up fall play in a little less than two weeks when SFA takes part in Little Rock's Women's Golf Classic in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will run from Sunday to Tuesday, Oct. 29-31 at the Diamante Country Club.
